We had a busy night. A Me-110 picked us up while still over the North Sea. Unfortunately, Quinn didn't pick him us, and learned of him when cannon fire took out our starboard flap. I commenced evasive action, and eventually got us away. Opdenbosch reported that our #2 engine was slowly losing oil, but that he thought he could keep it running long enough to get us to the target.
Quinn made up for letting that Me-110 by him, by spotting another as we began our approach to the target, and blasting it out of the sky! The searchlights and flak left us alone, but a FW-190 made a run at us from port, cutting off Waddell's heat before disappearing into the night.
Tannenbaum kept us on target, and I brought us down to 10,000 feet after turning for home, right about the time the #2 engine finally quit.
One last Me-110 attacked before we left the coast, doing a bit of superficial damage before I could lose him. Some light flak on Langeoog rattled Quinn's ammo boxes to say "good-bye".
