PM017 Mission 116 AAR : Bremen

PM017, pilot officer A. Nagel reporting. My first mission, with a veteran crew, was one I will not soon forget. We'd already sustained serious damage from multiple attacks before we arrived over the target zone, including multiple hits to the bomb bay, and the radio being knocked out. We avoided flak to put 30% on target. As uncomfortable as the run out was, we got it much worse on the way back. Frankly, I'm surprised we made it. The miracle was that as badly damaged as the plane is, not one of the lads suffered a scratch. I'll take that trade any day. Crew Chief Report: Major end items needing replacement are the radio, aileron controls, tail wheel, starboard rudder, port wing flap, rubber rafts, starboard brakes, starboard ammo box, one hand held extinguisher, and repair fire damage in vicinity of mid-upper turret. (29 hits, 258 Peckham Points)
