Flew towards target and were suprised by German nightfighter just after entering Dutch airspace. Took some damages to tail section, but nothing serious.
As we entered Germany, attacked by suprise again, and again sustained some damages. On approach to target, was hit by German searchlight and attacked by another nightfighter. Sgt. Maitland, mid upper gunner, hit him, sending him down in flames. Then we were hit by flak, which wounded Sgt. MacDunn, our bomb aimer, giving him a rather nasty crack in the head and rendering him unconscious. We dropped our bombs on the target city and headed for home.
Again, as we neared the Dutch coast, we was again attacked by German nightfighter. He hit us, doing no damages other than putting a couple of holes in us, then as he came at us again, Sgt. Maitland got him, shooting him down.
We landed safely at base, got Sgt. MacDunn to hospital, but sadly, he perished from his head wound.
Damages: hit to starboard rudder, starboard tailplane root, port wing root, starboard wing flap inoperable, port ammo box, nose guns rendered inoperable, ten misc. holes found in aerocraft.
Replacements: we shall need the services of a new bomb aimer for the next mission.
