Night Dagger Mission 119 AAR : Stuttgart

This was a bit of a rough one. With the damage we took it is a wonder any of us lived, let alone all of us.

We joined the bomber stream and headed toward the target. We were just short of the target when a 110 surprised us. On the first pass we took damage to the starboard wing root, and lost the tail gunner heat. A second pass resulted in damage to the starboard tailplane and more superficial damage. Due to the fact that we were almost to the target we decided to descend and continue toward the target.

Another surprise attack over the target resulted in us losing the #1 engine. We also had an oil leak in the #4 engine but fortunately it sealed.

Then the flak started. We were hit and lost the starboard waist ammo box, the # 3 engine was knocked out, and the tail wheel was damaged.

Despite all of this though we did put the bombs on target.

We were trying to limp home when we were surprised once more. We lost the port ammo box, more superficial damage, the bomb site was destroyed. We also lost our port elevator in the pass.

The plane was in bad shape but held together and landed back at base. Might be a bit tough getting her back together.
