Odd to fly daylight mission. Saw quite a number of enemy fighters and several of them were persistant buggers. We were not hit by flak. We are sure we bombed the target city, but missed the designated target.
On flight home, Sgt. Ahern (Navigator) was killed by enemy gunfire.
If we saw them all, we encountered 4 Bf109, 3 Fw190 and two of those Bf110. Sgt. Maitland shot down one of the attacking Fw190. Our escorting fighters chased away several enemy fighters.
Damages were very light — mostly some holes in the wings.
