Victoria Mission 122 AAR : Hanover

Our first mission; we returned with no one killed, missed the target, and our aeroplane needing repair.

Over Holland, we were greeted by a rather obnoxious Bf110 nightfighter who wounded Cpl. Reed and rendered our mid upper turret guns inoperable. Cpl. Reed was first hit in the head with some shrapnel, giving him a bad headache, then a Jerry bullet hit Sgt. Reed in the right ankle. As Cpl. Reed was unable to walk, I believe he will not be available for active duty for a bit.

As we began what we hoped was out bomb run, another Jerry shot at us; this time, we believe it was a Ju88. He damaged our oxygen supply, and worked over our port wing- hitting the root and rendering the aileron and flaps inoperable. We were not searchlighted nor encounter any other German night fighters.

The landing was a bit rough, but we made it.

Respectfully Submitted,
John Cerlulan, Pilot-officer, RAF
