Not sure we're too keen on this daylight caper.
All the action occurred over the target. On the way in 2 FW190s got through the fighter screen but neither of them was able to hit us.
The flak was more accurate and 2 hits started a brief but intense oil fire in the starboard inner engine.
In all the excitement the bombs went well wide of the mark.
We turned for home as the Spitfires drove off a single Me109. That must have been enough to divert them because then 3 FW190s attacked us. We had to deal with 2 ourselves and Sgt Lee in the nose saw hits on one of them. No damage was done to our Lanc.
The landing in the gloom was one of my worst yet; we all walked away but the Lanc needs a little work before the next outing.
