Almost as soon as we came in range of the Nachtgeschwader airfields we came under attack. The first surprise attack saw three hits to the wing root starboard side, #1 engine packed in and the ammo tracks to the tail turret (now without power anyway) got cut in half.
The second pass saw us lose the intercom and rubber rafts, #4 engine and an elevator and the third took out the tailwheel, started an O2 fire forward and took out a set of pulleys on the control wires.
When Jerry pushed off to muck up someone elses night we turned around and headed for the nearest emergency airfield trailing fuel and oil from the Port inboard tank.
No casualties though I don't know how.
