We were over the target before the nights action began in earnest.
First of all a stray 110 showed up and took out the port engine. Next the searchlights found us and the resulting flak barrage shattered both the rubber rafts and more importantly the bomb control system.
Finally a FW190 scored multiple hits during 3 separate passes against us. This knocked out the port elevator, starboard aileron, tail guns and wounded Sgt Lee our bomb aimer. After that there was no chance of an on target run.
That however was the last we saw of the enemy on this particular night.
Home safely and good to go again.
