We reached target without incident. Were surprised by Luftwaffe nightfighter. German put several holes in us and seriously wounded W.O. Sgt. Brovard. We were hit by flak, but no major damages were noted. No Wild Boar, no spotlight, no bombs on target. We missed designated target.
No attacks by enemy aircraft on return to base.
Sgt. Brovard died on the flight home.
Respectfully Submitted,
Robert Halpern, P.O. RAF
314 Squadron, RAF Bomber Command
Post Script: Flight surgeon reported to me that Sgt. Brovard had a cut artery and bled to death — there would have been nothing we could have done for him.
