The outbound trip was interrupted by a 110 who crept up underneath us. As it turned out he must have been as green as we were and he departed without ever hitting us.
The target area was pretty quiet and we had a straightforward run over the markers.
Home bound was a different story. A total of 4 enemy aircraft attacked us between the target and the German coast. The starboard rudder and aileron and then eventually the starboard inner engine all copped it. We eventually completed the trip on only three engines. Some hits were scored on the enemy but our gunners are going to need to improve before our second trip.
