Already over North Sea in zone 6 out we were caught by surprise by Bf 110 with Ace pilot. In first attack we got 4 hits — 3 at Port Wing and in Bomb Bay. 3 of them were superficial but one made our 2 engine out.
In second pass German missed but in third achieved another 2 hits — in Pilot Compartment and Tail. Hits inflicted light wound of tail gunner and Intercom out.
It was without common sense to continue mission and heroically die. Bombardier dropped bombs to the North Sea and Pilot directed aircraft to base.
Return flight was peaceful.

Our chances of surviving the war still remain slim but higher for a few percent.
