Our first trip to Germany turned out to be a huge success.
Outbound over the German coast a Me110 surprised us but was unable to do any real damage.
The crew then sharpened up and two Ju88s in quick succession were spotted and then shot down by Sgt Scottie MacEntire in the tail gunner's position.
Once the second enemy Ju88 had been despatched the target itself was fairly quiet. We avoided searchlights, flak and wild boars and Sgt Ash put the entire bomb load down smack over the aiming point.
Even though nothing else was encountered on the way home we remained vigilant and it was not until Home Girl rolled to a stop that we allowed ourselves a little celebration.
