We were over the target when our rear gunner spotted a Ju88 approaching from below. He put in three solid runs at us but left with nothing more to show than shredding our rubber rafts and a control cable hit.
The searchlights then found us but couldn't guide the flak onto us. A wild boar flashed passed at one stage but again no hits were scored.
Sgt Ash seemed to put a good proportion of the bombs down over the markers and we turned for home.
Above base a second Ju88 surprised us and proceeded to use us for target practice. Sgt Ash claimed a hit on him but by the time he left us alone he'd scored a number of hits on us.
Safely on the ground it was clear that we'd had quite a lucky night. In all 8 of the 11 hits on us had only caused superficial damage.
We're good to go again but someone needs to sort out these bloody Germans over our own airfields.
