Witch O' the Moonlight Mission 137 AAR : Ladbergen

This proved to be a relatively uneventful mission for Witch O' the Moonlight, though I understand some of the other chaps had a rougher time of it.

The target wasn't that far into enemy held territory and we didn't encounter any Jerries until we were right on top of it. The sky was clear as promised, though the GAF and the searchlights failed to find Witch. Still, the Ack-Ack managed to do some damage, all superficial. Just before bomb drop a Bf 109 Wild Boar charged us front on. Arthur (W/O Thomas) was too deep into his bomb run to react although Sgt Edgecombe had a go at Jerry with the MUT. James missed, but Roger (Sgt Bandman) reported the Hun managed to damage the tailwheel in passing. Then it was "bombs gone" as Arthur placed the eggs on the canal; estimate 60% effects on target. As Witch turned away she shock from the impact of 20mm rounds, a Bf 110 Tame Boar catching us by surprise. Our luck held as the damage again proved to be superficial. I threw Witch into her evasive maneuvers, thwarting Jerry's successive passes. After that he went in search of easier prey.

The flight home was uneventful, other than Bobby (Sgt Russell) reporting that the wireless was alive with reports of EA lurking over the home fields and the gunners getting so nervous that they were shooting at anything. Fortunately the situation had settled down by the time Witch O' the Moonlight reached Lincoln and, despite the bad tailwheel, the landing went off without incident. Everyone came home safe and sound. The wrench turners estimate that Witch will be ready for another mission tomorrow (63 Peckham Points).
