Intelligence sources, post-mission analysis and various crew debriefings indicate that PM020 was lost due to fuel tank fire somewhere north of Fulda, on its return trip. We believe that prior to the loss of the aircraft, it put 60% of its ordnance on target and that Rear gunner G. Yankton shot down four Jerries, whilst damaging three more. They gave better than they got. Red Cross indicates all seven crew are guests of the Luftwaffe, including flight engineer D. Pelton who was on his 35th mission. (He's since recovered from frostbite.)
