A vicious barrage of 30mm was the first we knew of a Schragemuzik armed NF in zone 9. Hits on #2 and 3 engines and a small fire as a result forced us to jettison our payload and once the fire was out and the NF had been driven off (or left having expended all his remaining ammo on our tail wheel and Port rudder) we turned for home on two. Fortunately Herman the German seemed to think we weren't worth bothering with and left us alone for the trip back to base.
The crash wagons were waiting for us but fortunately weren't needed though I'm told the showers of sparks front under the tail were quite alarming.
An early bath for us.
