It was successful mission although dearly ransomed. In zone 9 on a way to target Ju 88 with veteren surpise us and 2 of their 3 attacks obtained 6 hits — port wing aileron was inoperable, port ruder gets 1 hit.
Tail Gunner W/O Spitamenes was wounded twice, light and seroius. These wounds caused his death.
Over target Ju 88 with green pilot surprised us once again because we have no alive rear gunner. In two attacks german scored no hits and was eventually damaged and driven out by mid-upper gunner Flt/Sgt Barkley in his first flight.
Over the target we have not been caught by searchlights and flak fire was also ineffective.
Despite the poor weather bombardier made good aim on transport junction in Chemnitz and Germans were were severely punished.
Return way home, fortunately, took place without obstacles.
