We reached the target zone without encountering any hostiles. Although there was flak over the target zone, it did not cause anything more than superficial damage. It was hard to see through the cloud but the bombs were dropped over the markers and it was ascertained some of them — approx. 20% — hit the target area.
One Me-110 got the bounce on us as we turned to head for home, hitting the tail wheel and causing superficial damage to the wing. Defensive fire from our front turret hit the night fighter, damaging it enough to break off after an ineffective second pass.
There was no further contact with the enemy on the journey back. Despite damage to the tail wheel, we landed safely.
