Burke and Beyond Mission 140 AAR : Lützkendorf

AAR Mission: 140
Date: 14/15 March, 1945
Target: Lutzkendorf, Oil

Aircraft: Burke and Beyond (11th mission)
Pilot: William Farnham

Bomb Aimer: Henry Prentise, Navigator: Vern Bolland, Flight Engineer: Trevor Monash, Radio Operator: George Harris, Mid-upper Gunner: Dennis Tryon, Tail Gunner: Anthony D'Witt

An elated crew deplaned after this mission. Tony D'Witt our tail-gunner claimed his (and our bomber's) first confirmed kill of a night-fighter — an Me110 over Lutzkendorf. As well Henry Prentise the bomb-aimer put 30% on target in spite of jostling by flak.

The flak was far away but one shell burst off our waist hitting the ammo tracks without harming their operation and put another hole in Burke and Beyond's skin.

The only other incident was, just before arriving at target, when a Schrage-Musik Ju88 jumped us but missed and it was misses all round on subsequent passes with my evading until he flew off.

Return to base was uneventful and landing was safely done in spite of poor weather conditions.

Bomb run: ON; 30%

Bomber Damage: 2 hits (both from flak). Holes patched by tomorrow.
