Wyatt spotted a Me-110 coming up behind us as we appraoched the German coast. Despite my taking evasive action, our #3 engine was hit and began to run away. Vaugn got it feathered and I continued dodging the German until he gave up on us.
Our airspeed had dropped considerably, but we were close enough to the target that I decided to press on. We arrived late, and the searchlights and flak were otherwise occupied, so Czechowski and a clear and successful run on the target.
We saw no further action on the way home. After landing, entrance holes were discovered in the bomb bay, but no exit holes. Apparently, that Me-110 very nearly blew us out of the sky.
