Warlord Mission 146 AAR : Kiel

314 Squadron

Mission: 146
9/10 April, 1945

Target: Kiel, U-Boats

Lancaster: Warlord

We had a smooth flight until we neared the German coast, a ME110 managed to sneak up on us without being noticed, his first attack damaged our port wing but didn't hit anything critical. Although our gunners tired to knock him down he got a quick burst into the cockpit before losing us in cloud, this resulted in only a minor wound to our pilot.

Warlord continued on to the target without any further encounters, flak and searchlights over the target were ineffective but still ended up dropping our bombload off target.

Warlord turned for home but was yet again caught by a ME110 after passing the coastline, his first attack led to hits on the aileron in the port wing but again nothing too serious, he put a few more holes in the waist of the aircraft before going looking for easier prey.

After an uneventful journey home across the North Sea we landed safely back at Scampton, Warlord will need a few days in the hangar to fix the port wing and patch up the holes but will be ready for the next Squadron mission.
