We feared the worst on what looked like a long trip. Bad news showed up as soon as we crossed into Germany. A Ju88 surprised us and hit the mid upper turret killing Sgt Stacey outright.
Two more Ju88s attacked us near the target but their shooting was worse than ours and there was no damage done.
The target itself was fairly quiet and we got our bomb load down on the markers.
Before leaving Germany another Ju88 approached unseen and this one smashed the port inner engine causing it to be feathered.
Finally just short of the Dutch coast we spotted an intruder approaching. Sgt Atkins in the tail shot him down with what was his only burst of the night.
